Alaska Department of Education and Early Development
When it came to teaching foundational literacy skills, our teachers were in the same boat, but were rowing different directions. We had a research based curricular resource, but our staff didn't always "trust" the routines that were suggested by the resource. Steve helped us put together a team of "literacy leaders" that worked together to analyze data and to determine areas of strength and weakness amongst students. Steve worked with these teachers to develop a set of instructional routines that are research based and could be used regardless of the adopted curricular resource. In addition, Steve created instructional videos for teachers to "teach" them the correct way to execute the instructional routines.
